Summer Vacation?

Remember school days when you’d be asked how you spent your summer vacation? Well, here’s the Cliff Notes version of how I spent my summer, by way of explaining the long delay between blog posts.

Happy hours on the deck overlooking the water and laughing at the shenanigans at the boat launch. Hosting book groups, neighbors and friends for casual suppers on our screen porch.  Visits from different sets of rarely seen California relatives, and two mini family reunions.  Learning that water taxis and Revolutionary War forts are ideal for entertaining young nephews, and being educated by a nine-year-old that “no kid ever says no to ice cream.” Outdoor craft shows, concerts and farm markets. Kayaking around the mooring field for a closer look at the sailboats (I miss ours!)

Oh, and in between all that, we bought a condo. We finally found a one bedroom in the building where we’d been renting. The owner wasn’t quite ready to sell, so when he decided, we moved fast. And have been slowly trying to get it organized ever since. Did I mention the bedroom closet doors had no handles? (The tall seller simply grabbed the top and pulled.)  And the bathroom sink is almost chest-high?  It will all be fine in the end, and I’m having fun decorating, but talk about time consuming…

You might wonder how much painting I managed to do in between all these activities. The answer, sadly, would be “not much.” Unless you count palette knife painting with a nine-year-old. Therefore, I’m sharing this older painting, currently available at Coastal Arts Studio in Stonington. The view of the sun setting over the water never gets old.  I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as we do.

  1. I grew up on the water and there’s no substitute–so I’m glad you hung out to your heart’s content. Congrats on your new condo–enjoy it! And thanks for the sunset view–always beautiful.

  2. Hello Beth, always so pleased to read your posts. I’m happy you are working and thriving – despite occasional setbacks.
Our best to you and Paul.

  3. Sorry you had such a tough summer. If you want something more spectacular, come to CO and hang out in the mountains with us, especially right now when the colors are breathtaking. Stay safe and well. Best to Paul.
